This is an very reasonably priced router, with three specific features that are quite useful to me, and I hope will be useful for folks with kids.

    1) Great wireless strength. Much better than base Verizon Fios Actiontec Router.
What this means in real life is that signal strength is going to far stronger (than Fios) as you move away from the router location.

    2) Ability to set up Quality of Service very easily, and use to allocate bandwidth to each device.
What this means in real life is that you will be able to avoid any one person (e.g. the kid who is into gaming) slowing down the whole network.

    3) It has best in class security settings, so you can lock down your network properly.
What this means in real life is that you can use encryption to avoid hackers snooping on your traffic and/or cracking your password easily. Also, you can lock down access to specific devices (using MAC filtering).

PS: It also has the ability to set-up three separate guest networks, which may be helpful if you don’t want to widely share your wi-fi password.

I bought this on Prime day to extend my home’s wireless range as an Access Point (AP) by connecting it with a 100ft Ethernet cable to my main fiber optics/ Verizoon FioS MoCA router. Upon arrival, I had updated the firmware and did a speedtest and to my surprise I was getting 30/5 on my WIRELESS connection whereas my desktop (connected to this AP via Ethernet) speedtested 30/30 which is the FiOS internet plan I paid for. I then called Asus customer support to troubleshoot as to why my wireless connection seemed to be limited at 5Mbs upload and eventually the technician ran out of options before suggesting I get a replacement. Well, I decided to play around with the antennas and it turned out if I removed both attachable antennas the upload speeds tested at 30Mbs…but at the same time removing the antennas would kill my main objective of extending the wireless range. So in the end it turns out I had to have both antennas sticking HORIZONTALLY, instead of the normal perpendicular 90 degree, in order to get my 30/30 speeds. This happened to the first router, after I received the replacement I noticed the same issue but pointing the antennas horizontally didn’t fix it this time so I decided to load on Shibby Tomato custom firmware and then have the antennas horizontally which fixed the issue. Not sure if my experience will help you or not.

Disregarding my issue, I think this is a pretty solid wireless N product for such a low price. If your neighborhood is heavily congested with 2.4Ghz products (Google how to check) I suggest you research into 5Ghz/Wireless AC otherwise stick to this one if you want cheap wireless N but sturdy build.

Many of us rely on wireless signals now more than ever with our cell phones, tablets, and various computers. This is a really good, easy to set up router that works pretty quickly out of the box. I love how you can pick you own network password, rather than the assigned password. It sure makes things easy for me to remember the password, but remember to write it down, and if you can, tape it to your router so you won’t forget it.
Stability has been excellant, with good thru put. Range is pretty good, but not the absolute best. That said it gets to all three floors of my home with a strong useable signal.
Also the router does not seem to get too warm. There are routers that tend to overheat and throttle back. I’ve not seen that problem with the ASUS RT-N12.
The adjustable antennas on the back really seem to help the signal stability, or maybe it’s just the electronics in the unit. Whatever it is, it just flat works without requiring much attention. That gets my vote.
