    AD7200 Keeps Dropping Connections, October 16, 2016
    By

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
As advertised the wifi is very fast. The problem I have is with router keeping computers connected. When everything is setup initially it works great but after a few hours or up to a day later connections to individual computers or devices are dropped. Sometimes the devices reconnect on their own. The computers end up losing their Internet connection. This is due to the router holding the MAC address with the IP. The computer goes back to re-register the IP with the router but the IP is in use so it defaults to Auto IPV4 Config which assigns a new IP on a different Subnet. This prevents the computer from Internet access and also being seen by other computers. The only way to correct this is to renew the ipconfig & reboot the router. The connections get dropped on both static and dynamic IP’s issued by the routers DHCP. This seems to happen more often on wired connections but also happens on wireless.

This is the second router I have received. The first router had the same issue. I believe this is a fundamental issue with the router. I have a lot of devices connected and maybe there is a capacity issue when the router synchronizes MAC addresses going through the switches or router bridge repeater (this is only speculation). I have 6 desktops, 3 laptops, 1-wired ethernet printer, 1-wifi printer, 3 rokus, 2 WD lives, 2, switches, 1-router repeater bridge, 4 android phones & 2 tablets. I have both static IP’s for some of the computers and printers. I also have Dynamic IP’s issued by DHCP. Some devices are directly connected to the 4-port Ethernet in back of the router & some are connected via wireless. I have updated the firmware. The computers operate on Win 7, Win 8, Win 8.1 & Win 10. The devices are varied but everything mentioned shares one common thing … they all get dropped by the router at some point.

BTW- everything I mentioned above was previously connected to my Netgear R6250 router and worked flawlessly. The TP-Link Talon AD7200 was an upgrade to enhance my wifi speeds. And again … everything worked fantastic when it was first connected but then started to drop out. I have some network & router skills so I did try my best to troubleshoot over the past two weeks.

Lastly, I read some complaints and TP-link responded by saying “please contact us for help”. I contacted TP-Link myself and got no help. The hold time is excessive and the technician barely spoke English. This is a new device for TP-Link and the technician first doubted me that it was even a TP-Link product. The only thing they recommended was restarting my devices and modem which is ridiculous. Thank goodness for Amazon customer support and allowing me to return this router.

Beware TP Link Archer9 constantly resets, October 8, 2016

TP LinkArcher9 stopped working after 7 months of use. Should have returned it outright since the AC adapter burned out on the first day–unfortunately I had a replacement with the same specs. The adapter literally started melting and had to quickly unplug the surge protector as it was too hot to remove by hand. A month ago it started constantly rebooting with more than two LAN cables plugged in. Tried to update the firmware and still constantly resets. Nice $120.00 brick. TP Link forums have a good number of similar issues with no input from the company.

I do not recommend this router, September 15, 2016

I do not recommend this router. The 5.0 band is working great. However devices with 802.11n that require the 2.4 band are not working. When connected 80 percent time they are less than 1mb download. They get dropped and can only reconnect after rebooting the router.

I am not new to these types of troubles. I have ruled out interference, incompatible wireless card, drivers, firmware, etc. I’m now dealing with their technical support fully thinking I am going to have to warranty return it.

Their technical support number was busy the first day. Second day I got ahold of someone who deferred me to email as they were unable to do anything over the phone.

Terrible. The most frustrating thing is that occasionally I can get 53 mb throughput on the 2.4 band, but it is fleeting. I g
