Horrible Customer Service at TP-Link, June 3, 2016

Took me hours to get an RMA, called the first number off their USA website and got someone who could barely speak English after behind on hold as “currently #1 in line” for about 15 minutes and having to consistently refresh myself in queue or be hung up on. Finally got a California # and then never got a response. Eventually looked up the email for the RMA system and got it processed that way. A customer should not have to bend over backward to get a fix for a defective product!

    never buying TP-LINK again.

Great routers when they work, TERRIBLE customer service., July 22, 2016

I bought 3 of these; I for myself and two for my parents house. I set up all three to function as access points and when they work, they work great. Unfortunately, one of the three died two weeks ago and I’ve had the displeasure of trying to work with TP-Link RMA service. It’s been 2 business weeks and I’m still at the point of “wait for us to call you before we do anything”. They do occasionally respond to emails but only with “keep waiting”. Unfortunate- I would otherwise rate these routers as 5 stars but the early failure (just over two months old) coupled with the VERY SLOW customer service makes it hard to recommend giving money to this company.

Tip: they offer an “advance RMA service”… Don’t be tempted. I opted to use the advance RMA thinking it would get me a router sooner, but it’s been an entire business week and they still haven’t shipped out a working router. If I had just used the regular RMA service they would have already received the dead router (though who knows when, IF, these people will even send me a working one).

Too bad it died just outside of the return window 🙁

Died after 6 months; terrible customer service, July 7, 2016

The wireless router was easy to set up and worked well, until it suddenly stopped working after 6 months. The lights all flashed appropriately, but it produced no wired or wireless signal, and could not be pinged, even after several attempts at power cycling and resetting. That was bad enough; the customer service was worse. I called Tech support the same day (a Thursday) and was promised an email with an RMA number by the following day. After receiving nothing, I called back the following Wednesday, and was told that the CSR failed to escalate the request appropriately (i.e. they had it and were sitting on it). I received an email with an RMA number right away, with options to either send the old unit back (on my dime), after which they would send a new one; or to pay $13 for them to send a new one and pay the return shipping for the old unit. I emailed back right away that I wanted option B, and heard nothing back. I called the next day and was told that it takes 2-3 business days for the RMA team to respond. So, as of now, I am still waiting.

Of course, my home network requires a router, so I purchased one (a Netgear) the day after this one broke. The only reason I am going through the RMA process is so that I will have a spare router in case the new one I bought dies. I recommend against anyone buying from TP-Link.
