Wireless Internet Router
What is a wireless internet router?
A wireless internet router is basically just a device to send the signal you get from the internet out to a number of units, be they PCs, gaming consoles or whatever else you need to plug the net into. You don’t need to install any special new equipment or switch internet service providers, a wireless internet router just takes the internet you’re getting and sends it to the wireless modems in your PC or what have you.
So, no, you don’t need any special service or anything in order to use a wireless internet modem, you only need to plug the modem into your current internet service provider and you’re ready to go.
There are risks with a wireless internet modem regarding security. This is sometimes especially true with a cheap wireless router, which might be easier to hack than a pricier one. Our advice is to read a wireless router review or two and find one with a good security rating.
The hackability comes from the fact that a wireless router sends information out in the air, rather than through a broadband telephone line or a cable, so anyone with the password can log in and start browsing on your ISP. Luckily, you can just set your WEP settings in order to make hacking in a tougher procedure than it’s worth.
So if you’re ready to get rid of a few tangled cords and cables under your desk, go ahead and look around for some good routers, find one that’s cheap, capable and easy to use, and get yourself set up.
